Eric and Chris DeBerry, owners of DeBerry Insurance Agency on Main Street in Downtown Spring Hill, are dedicated to giving back to the community. The agency has been locally owned and operated for more than 17 years and when they opened their doors here in 2003, Spring Hill was much different than it is today. They saw the potential for this community to grow. They wanted to be a part of the community as a local business and support the growth of the community along the way.
What you may not know about the Deberry’s, Eric and Chris founded the Spring Hill Country Ham Festival in 2004 and coordinated the event for many years, forging a grassroots effort to grow the festival into a regional attraction and even working with the Tennessee State Legislature to declare the first Saturday in October the official Country Ham Day in the State of Tennessee. The DeBerrys stepped back from coordinating the festival in 2010 when they turned it over to the title sponsor to continue operations.
Eric is past president of the Rotary Club of Spring Hill & Thompson’s Station. Both Eric and Chris are former board members of the Spring Hill Chamber of Commerce. Chris organized the chamber’s first business expo, which has continued as an annual event.
DeBerry Insurance Agency was recently recognized as a national “Change Agent” by Safeco Insurance for their work with Snooty Giggles Dog Rescue, located in Thompson’s Station, TN.
The DeBerrys host a Free Shred Day for the community each year. To date, the agency has collected nearly ten tons of paper for recycling and collected hundreds of pounds of food for The Well Outreach during the event.
The 5th Annual DeBerry Insurance Agency Free Shred Day was originally planned for April, but the event had to be rescheduled due to the COVID-19 crisis. The agency plans to announce a new date for the 2021 event soon.
During the COVID-19 crisis, the DeBerrys continued to find ways to give back locally. In May of 2020, the agency partnered with one of their carriers, Erie Insurance Agency, to purchase $1,000 in gift cards from locally-owned restaurant Delta Bound and donate them to The Well Outreach. They also partnered with Chubb Insurance to purchase $1,000 in gift cards from locally owned Jack of Hearts BBQ and donate them to the EMS team at Maury Regional Hospital and first responders at TriStar ER in Spring Hill.
